When the Air Line Pilot’s Association needed airline-savvy writers for a national campaign, I worked in their Public Relations Departmentalso, placing published articles and editorial items. The ALPA tapped me to lobby Congressional Representatives and Senators on Capitol Hill. The Aircraft Owner’s and Pilots Association (AOPA) has a national program of airport advocacy, the Airport Support Network (ASN), which assigns pilot reps as local contacts to interface with AOPA. I’m the rep for Dulles (IAD). Ran for 396 consecutive weeks from 1996 to 2004. Family PC Fun It’s hard to imagine today, but in 1996 people had little idea of what to do with the Internet. As my books were helping millions of new users make sense of the vastness of “cyberspace,” I created a Sunday newspaper comic strip that helped families learn the Internet together. Each week offered a Featured Site and a Bonus Site, plus a “Tip of the Week” and a “Window Booster” (remember when we needed tips and tricks just to keep Windows running?). But the most fun of all was the “Featured Family” where each week I highlighted a home-grown family Web site. For the next eight years, it ran weekly for 396 consecutive editions. Fortunately for all of us, by 2004 the Internet was so user-friendly and resources were so easy to find that a publication like this no longer made sense. But it was fun while it lasted!
